Attachment in Childcare Institutions

When an adult provides regular and consistent physical and emotional care to a child, an attachment forms. Quality care characterized by the caregiver’s availability, sensitivity, acceptance, and sense of belonging determines whether a secure or insecure attachment is formed (Bakermans-Kranenburg et al., 2011).

Children living in traditional families form an attachment to their parents, but what about children in childcare institutions?
